Abstract

The book Action publique et environnement , published in an updated edition in the “What Do I Know?” series, offers an analytical introduction to environmental crises, which have prompted states to rethink the mechanisms of public action. The two authors, Aurélien Évrard, a researcher specializing in energy policies, and Pierre Lascoumes, a researcher in the sociology of public action in France, address a set of central questions that the environment raises for the modern state. These include: How are political decisions made in a context of scarce data and conflicting scientific expertise? And how can multiple actors be integrated into the policymaking process, despite their differing interests and divergent perceptions of environmental risks?
