The Political Culture of Nubian Youth in Egypt: The Nubian Movement Towards the Issue of Return as a Case Study

Abstract

The study seeks to identify the role played by the political culture of the Nubian youth in reviving the Nubian movement towards returning to the old Nubia, the extent to which this movement achieved its goals or not, and the relation between participation in this movement and levels of awareness and political culture. Finally, it explores the Nubian youth's perception of how to implement the return process. It is a descriptive analytical study that relies on anthropological research tools to collect qualitative data and on Clifford Geertz’s approach to the interpretation of culture to analyse it. The study concludes that the political values proliferated by the 25 January Revolution revealed signs of a new political culture among Nubian youth that helped revive the issue of return, yet also that these young people do not currently have the tools to manage this issue.
