يتفق الكثير من المراقبين الأميركيين أنّ العدوان الإسرائيلي الأخير على قطاع غزة مثّل تحديًا كبيرًا لإدارة الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما؛ لأنه ضاعف الأزمات الدولية التي تواجه السياسة الخارجية الأميركية، وأعاد الأضواء من جديد على موضوع "تراجع الزعامة والقيادة الأميركية عالميًا". تناقش هذه الورقة تراجع قدرات الرئاسة الأمريكية في حقبة أوباما الراهنة، وتسلط الضوء على فشل أمريكا في التعامل كما ينبغي مع العدوان الإسرائيلي غير المسبوق حجمًا ودمارًا ومدى زمنيًا على قطاع غزة.وتركز بصورة رئيسة على عجز الولايات المتحدة المتزايد عن مجابهة التعنت الإسرائيلي.
