الملخص

تعالج الدراسة تداعيات تحول النظام الدولي من ثنائي القطبية إلى أحادي القطبية الدولية على النظرية الواقعية؛ حيث تستعرض وتحلل الكيفية التي تعامل بها الواقعيون في الرّد على هذا التحدي الخارجي. وتستعرض أيضًا الردّ التقليدي على "الهجمة " تجاه الواقعية، والذي جاء في محاولة للحفاظ على مرتكزاتها الأساسية. وتشرح بعد ذلك التوجهات التعديلية - التجديدية المختلفة التي قام بها منظّرون من هذه المدرسة في محاولة منهم لمواءمة أسس هذه النظرية ومرتكزاتها مع أحادية القطبية. تتطرق الدراسة إلى أربع محاولات تعديلية: توازن التهديد، والتوازن الناعم، وتوازن المصالح، والتوازن خارج المجال. أخيرًا تسعى الدراسة لتقديم إضافة جديدة، جاءت بعنوان "التوازن من الداخل "، وإن كان هذا العنوان مستلًا من النظرية الليبرالية المناوئة للواقعية، إلا أنه يأتي بتكييف واقعي، لطول أمد حقبة أحادية القطبية الحالية.
