  2. جرى اختراع "مجهر المسح النفقي " (microscope tunneling Scanning) على يد باحثَيْ من شركة "آي بي إم" (IBM)؛ هما جيرد بينيغ وهاينريخ روهرير. وقد حازا جائزة نوبل للفيزياء عن هذا الاختراع في عام.1986
  3. سيكون ذلك ممكنًا أيضًا مع اختراع مجهر آخر في عام 1985؛ هو "مجهر القوة الذرية" (Microscope Force Atomic) الذي يكتشف الجاذبية المسلّطة على ذروة الذرات.
