Contemporary Historical Methodologies: From Comparative History To Connected History

Abstract

Comparative history dominated the academic arena for decades and researchers engaged with it in theory, practice and development. For a long time no other methodology could compete with it and prevail in its place, so it was crowned the "king of historical methods". But the contextual changes that the whole world has experienced in recent decades - especially with globalization - have shaken the throne of comparative history, and the scientific arena has given rise to a "network" of methods adapted to the needs of the new context. The aim of this study is to present the main contemporary historical approaches and methodologies that are still at the peak of their dynamism and development, including: connected history, Shared History, cultural transfer, transnational history, Histoire croisée, entangled History.
