When History Becomes the Science of the State in the Arab World

Abstract

The Doha Institute for Historical Studies in cooperation with the journal Ostour organized an academic seminar titled “When History Becomes a State-Sanctioned Discipline in the Arab Region” on January 15 and 16, 2017 in Doha, Qatar with the participation of several Arab historians and other scholars. The seminar examined examples pertinent to the Arab world which highlighted the relationship between the historian and the state, the values of citizenship, modernization, historical writing, reform, and imagined events.
